Why is this project occurring?
As part of the Friends Health & Fitness (FH&F) Strategic Plan and our ongoing commitment to providing a high-quality facility for all members and visitors, we are planning an upgrade to the external roof of the pool hall. Investigations into the Pool Hall have shown that the aging metal deck roof and its flat gutters are positioned over the building rather than under the roofline, causing drainage vulnerabilities. We are replacing the metal deck roof and flat roof sections only. The dome/arched roof will not be replaced during this project.
This work is a necessary component of the on-going capital works to prolong the life of the building, improve functionality and target reduced maintenance costs to ensure the building continues to be fit for purpose.
When is the project happening?
The project is planned for January 2027.
What happens to my membership?
We have reviewed all memberships and passes to ensure any changes implemented in the system accurately reflect the impact of the works on your membership type. The below adjustments will be automated, and implemented close to the works once the exact closure period is known.
1. Full Access Members:
Both Full Access Direct Debit and those who paid upfront for a Term membership will continue to have access to the gym and group fitness classes; and
- If you pay by Direct Debit, your membership will automatically convert to ‘Gym Only’ membership pricing from the start date of the pool closure. You will revert to Full Access membership pricing as soon as the pool reopens; or
- If you paid upfront for a Term membership, your membership will receive a calculated extension to compensate for your lack of access to the pool during this period.
2. Aquatic Only Members:
All Aquatic Only memberships will be automatically adjusted for the duration of the pool closure; and
- If you pay by Direct Debit, payments will be suspended and will resume once the pool reopens; or
- If you paid upfront for a Term membership, you will receive an extended expiry date, aligned with the duration of the pool closure.
3. Gym and Group Fitness Members:
- There will be no change to your memberships as the gym and group fitness timetable will continue as usual.
4. Friends Swimming Members:
- Your membership remains unchanged as all squad training will continue during the closure period, utilising alternative facilities as necessary.
5. Visit Pass Holders:
- All visit passes (Aquatic and Full Access) will receive an extended expiry date, aligned with the duration of the pool closure.
Why are you not able to action alternative membership requests now?
We are unable to process alternative requests at the moment due to the initial system updates required for automated processes.
